Sign your own IPA

A complete guide to exporting your Apple Developer certificate, provisioning profile, and signing your app.

What you need

  • →Apple Developer Account with team access or personal account
  • →IPA file — the unsigned app binary
  • →P12 Certificate — your signing certificate exported from Keychain
  • →Provisioning Profile — downloaded from Apple Developer Portal

Step 1: Export your P12 certificate

On macOS:

  1. Open Keychain Access
  2. Go to My Certificates or search for your Apple Developer certificate
  3. Right-click your certificate (the one with your name) → Export…
  4. Save as .p12 format
  5. Enter a password to protect the file: you will type it in the signer

Note: You need the certificate from Keychain, not just the one downloaded from Apple Developer.

Step 2: Download your provisioning profile

Visit Apple Developer:

  1. Go to developer.apple.com/account
  2. Navigate to Profiles (or Identifiers → App IDs if creating new)
  3. Select your app's provisioning profile or create one if it does not exist
  4. Click Download
  5. The file will be named something like MyApp.mobileprovision

Tip: Use an Ad Hoc or Development profile for testing on personal devices. App Store Distribution profiles require App Store submission.

Step 3: Sign with skrpt.gg

Back to our signer:

  1. Go to /signer
  2. Drag your .ipa file into the first box
  3. Upload your .p12 certificate
  4. Upload your .mobileprovision profile
  5. Type the P12 password, if you set one
  6. Optional: Add a custom app name or a PNG icon
  7. Click Sign and download

Wait time: Signing takes from 30 seconds to a few minutes depending on file size. We will not keep your files.

Which devices: the signed app installs only on the devices listed in your provisioning profile (their UDIDs). To add a device, add it to the profile on Apple Developer and download the profile again.

Step 4: Install on your device

On the iPhone:

  1. Install a signing app such as eSign and import your certificate
  2. Import the signed .ipa, sign it and tap Install
  3. Needs Developer Mode on iOS 16 and later: see Unlock Developer Mode on /signer

With a Mac:

  1. Install Apple Configurator on a Mac (free from the Mac App Store)
  2. Connect the iPhone via USB and drag the signed .ipa onto it

Troubleshooting

Error: Invalid certificate

Your P12 file is either corrupted or does not match the provisioning profile. Re-export from Keychain and verify the certificate is tied to the same Apple ID as the profile.

Error: Profile and certificate do not match

The certificate used to create the provisioning profile is different from the one you uploaded. Download a profile that matches your exported certificate from the Developer Portal.

Cannot install on device: “Untrusted Developer”

On the iPhone, go to Settings → General → VPN & Device Management, find your certificate issuer, and tap Trust. This is required for any sideloaded app.

Developer Mode is missing from Settings

On iOS 16 and later the switch stays hidden until an app signed with your certificate is installed. No computer needed: use Unlock Developer Mode on /signer, which signs a 60 KB app with your certificate and installs it over the air. The switch then shows up in Settings → Privacy & Security → Developer Mode.

Security & Privacy

  • ✓Files are deleted as soon as the job ends. We keep no copies, and the P12 password is never stored.
  • ✓No logging of certificate contents or file data.
  • ✓Uploads and downloads travel over HTTPS.
  • ✓The signer is reserved for skrpt.gg members (Discord sign-in).
